Jangada
Another favorite of tourists in Cumbuco is go out on the ocean
on a small sailboat. These boats have been used by fishermen here
for a long time. It is not really a boat at all, but a raft, which
is why they are called Jangadas as that is the Portugese word for
raft. The trip out on the sea last somewhere between 30 and 45 minutes.
Almost every barraca has its own Jangadas, and there are still local
fishermen that go out fishing on theirs, so on any given day the
beach of Cumbuco is adorned with many of these rafts, both on the
water and on the beach, where they are put when not out on sea.
